Being a mother of 2 kids, on my journey from London to Gurgaon here is my story leading to UtterBug. Like all parents I want to be able to get access to top education for my children so that one day they are able to stand on their own feet and have no regrets in life. Being a homemaker and a mother, I strongly believes in the ideology of practical learning, self-development and decided to enrol them in Caimbridge Board school (In London) and then to IB Board School in Gurgaon, India. But while the school continues to help them excel in generic subjects like English, Math and Science but not in foreign language. Both Evan and Anay realised that they were passionate about learning Spanish so they decided to choose it as their 2nd language. There’s no betting to the fact that the both of them perform really well in all the subjects except of Spanish. Now why is that, one may wonder.
The reason now comes down to the simple economics of supply and demand. The lack of availability of teachers who teach foreign languages continue to be a problem in India. It has been an issue ever since the IB (International Board) schools have sprung up and all of this has just become one neatly tied quagmire. Although the school itself puts in whole hearted efforts to be able to teach the chosen language but somewhere down the line everyone needs to hold a helping hand. That’s exactly where the problem creeps in. For most of the generic subjects you would easily be able to find tutors all over, but the weak spot goes unnoticed. We had been facing this problem for a long time now and as kids get promoted to the next grade year by year, the snag only gets bigger. This had put me in a very tough spot feeling helpless on the matter.
I sees both Evan and Anay battling with their homework and exams all on their own trying to explore available resources including online Sites ex Babbel.com and Duolingo.com. The availability of the tutors in the city is close to negligible and because the supply of the tutors is so less, the cost of hiring them is about Rs.1500(20$) a session usually 45 minutes, with no guarantee of quality. Not to mention the time and distance that is inevitable in the city life.
